Write an essay comparing and contrasting the american revolutionary and civil wars. You can create a comparative essay on two works you've read in similar genres two poems, two plays or two novels, for example. Use this essay structure to compare characters in one work of literature or main characters in two different works. For example, if you are studying shakespeare’s plays, you might compare and contrast the tragic heroes macbeth and hamlet, the theme of evil or the topic of murder as it is presented in each play. Alternately, you could compare and contrast characters within each play, such as hamlet and king claudius in hamlet or macbeth and lady macbeth in macbeth. Historical turning points, such as the invention of electricity or the advent of traveling by train, can be used to compare and contrast daily life before and after a significant discovery or invention. For science class, compare and contrast mammals and reptiles or two animals, such as humans and apes or turtles and lizards, that fall within each grouping. You can use this type of essay for a physics paper comparing the theories of newton and einstein or for contrasting ideas about cosmology before and after galileo introduced his view of the universe. For an ecology lesson, students can compare and contrast statistics related to global warming at different points in time or compare the amount and type of trash produced daily in different countries around the world.

This allows the reader to relate to the poem which is more clearly portrayed to them. Duffy also uses enjambment to allow the sentences of the poem to end in the same place as regular line breaks. Enjambment is one way of creating audible interest as it allows the flow of reading. This device allows the poem to carry a realistic voice, also making the poem more personal, allowing the reader to relate to the narrator and their feelings. This makes sure the reader remembers these last two lines as emphasis of their love is created. These creates a pause which enables the reader to take in what is being said and absorb how much she misses her 'living laughing love'.

While duffy employs literary and erotic imagery to demonstrate the height of their love, 'his touch a verb dancing in the centre' of hathaway's 'noun', shakespeare specifically shuns literary conventions. Yet as the poem continues our perception of the relationship changes because we learn that even though this woman's voice is not a 'pleasing' musical sound, and even more unpleasantly honest, she has breath that 'reeks', she is a real woman and therefore his love for her is also real. Though the poem is a sonnet, it does not conform in content to the elizabethan tradition, and the woman is a believable person instead of an objectified work of beauty. The duke dealt with his problem by calmly disposing of his wife, the chilling alliteration of 'all smiles stopped together' reinforcing his complete lack of love. In both the sonnets we see loving relationships portrayed, shakespeare offering a more truthful love and duffy offering an alternative truth for shakespeare and anne hathaway. Finally, in armitage's poem, we see a relationship where a mother and son are portrayed as never splitting up.
