First Week of College Essay TextThe first week of september was a week that i had been anticipating all summer. I didnt want summer to be over, but i was excited about going to high school for my first week. I was also a little bit nervous when i got to the bus stop because i didnt know anyone. When i got to hamilton high school, i was told by some authoritative adult to go out to the quad and check what class i was in for combination first period and homeroom. Academic Position PaperI went out and saw a bulletin board surrounded by people and covered in papers with names. I was relieved to see that in a class of unfamiliar faces, the only open seat was next to my good friend, casey. It only took until second period to see how different high school is compared to middle school. In second period, my history teacher cursed openly in class and told us that it was okay because she was already going to hell with her husband. The next day i got the same thing from my english teacher, except in a slightly different way. Like the rest of my class, i thought it was pretty funny to hear something that you never hear a teacher say, being said in class, but i also think that its good my teacher has an open attitude. My teacher said that we could even curse in the classroom as long as we really meant it, so as not to take away the power that the four letter word has. So far i havent cursed in class, but i think it might change my view on curse words. The academics in high school seem like theyre going to get much harder, but they havent yet. Even though my classes look hard english, ancient civilization, geometry, advanced orchestra, baseball conditioning, inter coordinated science and grammar they look really exciting too. Having a totally different experience than i had ever had was exciting, and my first day was made even better, when i found $20 on the ground. Although i had a great time during my first week of school, a lot of it was overwhelming: the size of the campus, the crowds and the seniors. Seeing people over a foot taller than me im 4 foot 11 with moustaches and beards, who werent teachers, was a little frightening, but as the week went on it became less and less scary, because i realized how the seniors wanted nothing to do with us lowly freshmen. I have lots of friends in my classes, i really like my teachers and im meeting new people. There’s really no real way to avoid it besides taking it slow and embracing this once in a lifetime moment: your first college move in day. Here are a few tips to make this transition easier, and what i have learned through my first week of dorm life. You will forget something. no matter what you do, no matter how many online, college packing lists you look up about 10 for me , you will forget something. The reason you forget stuff is because you don’t really know what you’ll need until you actually move in and spend the night in this scary place called college. For instance, i didnt know that my desk came with a bulletin board on the back of it, so i didnt bring any thumbtacks. After going to three different stores and realizing that those crazy moms had snatched up all the thumbtacks for their little angels, i am still without. The bookstore is very expensive. i don’t know what kind of rights college bookstores have, but they mark up everything to ridiculously high prices. One five subject notebook may cost you $9.99! do not buy your school supplies here. Which now offers the ability to rent books for a whole lot cheaper than buying them. My school’s bookstore was selling my beginning german textbook for $200, but i found it online for about $28. Bring dorm room decorations there is nothing worse than walking into a dorm room with nothing to look at but white concrete blocks. I had a super intense craft day before i moved in and i made all kinds of wall decorations for my room. The dorm lights are usually pretty harsh, and you will look so much cooler to the passerby in the hallway that looks in on you every time. Meet the people on your floor as soon as you can the first few days are pretty much the only normal time to go next door and introduce yourself. After that, it’s kind of weird because the window of opportunity has already passed. Feel free to keep introducing yourself, but the best time is in those first few days. By angela jimeno june 05, 2007 the first week of college college isnt so bad. Im taking about 15 hours this semester 5 classes and the course work is pretty easy. Sometimes i feel as if im back in high school because the course work isnt intense, or so it seems. How to Write a Great College Scholarship EssayMy peer mentor who picked out most of my classes says that ive got a really good deal on my classes. My parents and i have a pretty open relationship, not that it wasnt like that before, but now i can say things more freely because they dont have control over what i do. I thought they were going to be upset with me for attending parties on school nights, but surprisingly, they werent. Im still feeling a bit groggy some friends and i camped out for seven hours to get tickets to see the dalai lama on september 20th. I pretty much whined about everything the humidity, food, lack of sleep, bugs but luckily my friends stuck it out with me. We even brought a couch and propped it up on the sidewalk while everyone else had to sit on the hard concrete. How to Go About Writing a Dissertation
