Essay on Why Reading Is Better Than Tv TextAs others said, if you are watching tv for an educational channel to history, it is very nice to watch documentaries for much faster content and a visual concept. People read about garbage celebrities and celebrities news articles all the time, but does this make them smart? of course not! tv is convenient and easy, but that doesn't mean it makes you stupid. As i say again, both books and tv are beneficial if content is deemed right, but this is all a matter of opinion. I am not against books, but i don't like the fact people are on sided against tv. A book is unique. sure, every person who picks up a copy of the same book is going to read the same plot, but thanks to the powers of our respective imaginations, while i might picture purple trees, you might picture gray. While i might picture michael keaton as the leading man, you might picture gerard butler. When you read, you engage with your inner life in a way you can’t with television. A book can really be paused. in theory, a tv show can be paused, provided you’ve got a dvr or watch everything on your laptop. But you can put down a book whenever you want, and you don’t need a special box to do it. You don’t have to stay up all night in fear of missing something though some of us do anyway , because come morning, you can pick right back up where you left off. A book has no reruns unless you want them. when you pick up a new book, you never have to hold your breath and keep your fingers crossed that it isn’t a book you’ve already read. You’re always guaranteed a new adventure unless you want to revisit your favorite story, in which case, it’s just as easy and far less full of commercials. A book is always 3d, without the hassle of glasses. i don’t know about you, but as a person who wears glasses, nothing is more irritating than having to precariously perch a pair of fancy schmancy 3d specs on top of them. Guess what doesn’t require 3d glasses for an all encompassing experience? a book, y’all. Like red bull, a book gives you wings. in the immortal words of the reading rainbow theme song, butterfly in the sky, i go fly twice as high! but reading doesn’t just to take you to places you might not go like space! , it also starts conversations with strangers who, seeing what you’re reading, might become friends. I’ve struck up more conversations with groovy, reading strangers than with any other people. Want to try out that new restaurant but all yours peeps are busy? take your newest book, order it fries, and then don’t share those fries! this is a party. A book is a secret language. you may not be able to judge a book by its cover debatable , but i’ve judged more than my fair share of folks based on what they’ve read. I knew one of my bosom companions was going to be just that when she used the phrase… bosom companion. A book is meant to end. even the best tv shows get worse and worse, as they go on and on. Tv shows are designed to fight against their own inevitable ends by their very nature. Even if the story is epic enough that it extends a song of ice and fire – style, every author comes to you with a beginning, a middle, and a reassuring end. in the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. I agree with the author insofar that watching television has become a more valuable means in learning skills than reading books in other fields of learning, however, i disagree that the watching television has a equal value with reading books one the contrary, reading books is still much more important than watching television. To begin with, reading books is better than watching television because it provides an active learning for learners while the latter is a passive one. The difference of these two kinds of learning originates from the disparity that books is a static medium, whereas television program is a dynamic medium. Codes for Writing on Dirty PaperConsequently, book readers can control the speed and the interval of their leaning activity: they can stop to think freely if they want, and continue their reading at any time. In contrast, tv views cannot control the rhythm of the process they have to follow the program passively, lacking much free time of thinking. In us, japan, canada, and other developed countries where watching television is a very common thing among the public, there is rising a deep concern about the indulging of children in tv programs, which would prevent to some extend the mental growth of children many parents refuse to install cable tv in their houses because they are worrying that their kid would become more passive and more stupid if watching too many programs. In a word, active learning is cherished by the modern education, and reading book can achieve this goal while watching tv cannot. Moreover, reading books is better than watching television because it can learn much more knowledge than the latter does. Understandably, books have existed as a medium of recording knowledge of the world for thousands of years, whereas television is not only a modern invention existing for no more than half a century. Therefore, the number of knowledge in books greatly exceeds that in tv cassettes. We can find so many books in all fields of academic efforts: humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, while in tv cassettes or discs, we can just find much fewer of them. Accordingly, if we want to learn more knowledge with broad scopes and diversified contents, we have to turn to read books rather than watch tv programs. Nonetheless, in the learning of techniques, watching tv programs are better than reading books. As mentioned above, the nature of tv programs is dynamic while that of books are static at the same time, the process of learning techniques require a dynamic show of how the techniques are being conducted. Consider students in art, architecture, music, design, dance, and drama, all pay much attention on the training of skills in their fields. They rely much on watching videos and tv programs to imitate and practice the skills that are the focus of their study. Without these media, it is difficult for them to achieve their learning goals in conclusion, in most cases, as a means of learning, reading book is still much more important than watching television because of its active nature and its extensive content. However, in the learning of skills, watching tv and video is more important than reading books because of its dynamic nature. Dont get me wrong, i love a good tv show as much or maybe more than the next girl, but here are 10 reasons why i love books much better.
