Descriptive Essay Eyes Textthings to consider as you write your descriptive essay
College Essentials HomeworkI crawled out of the comforter, edging awkwardly like a butterfly from a cocoon, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. The dusty pebbles on the chilled, wood floor sent ripples spiraling from my ankles to the nape of my neck when my feet hit the floor. Grabbing the apricot, terri cloth robe, recently bathed in fabric softener and october wind, i knotted it tightly at my waist like a prestigious coat of armor and headed downstairs to battle the morning. spatial order description: show the reader where things are located from your perspective. billy ray's pawn shop and lawn mower repair looked like a burial ground for country auction rejects. The blazing, red, diesel fuel tanks beamed in front of the station, looking like cheap lipstick against the pallid, wrinkled texture of the parking lot sand. Patton high school on the north end of town, was framed with a rusted metallic hedge of lawn mowers, banana seat bicycles, and corroded oil drums. It wasn't a calico frame of rusted parts, but rather an orchestra of unwanted machinery that billy ray had arranged into sections. The oil barrels, jaded and pierced with holes, bellared like chimes when the wind was right. In the middle of it all was the office, a faded, steel roof supported by cheap two by fours and zebra paneling. They grabbed me and brought be down to his world, a world i saw with his colourblind eyes. You’d be surprised on how wretched eyes can be…especially when they are always looking at you. The lady with no arms stared up at me with horrific eyes, so red and disturbed and longing. We cannot just go around telling people how beautiful they are! can we? shouldn’t we? oh her eyes, if a brown ocean would be considered beautiful i would want to swim in her eyes. But i’d be so afraid i would get lost in darkness, have you ever been on the ocean at night? or even a lake for that matter? you can’t see anything it’s frightening to say the least, but it’s always frightening when it’s dark. I could see through it, just like i could see through that cup someone had placed in his hand. Was it because they couldn’t see his eyes? his sightless eyes? i wish to be a ghost behind this man to see how many people would walk by his misery and feel a hint of remorse. I would count how many people would lean down and put a shining glimmer of hope into his cup, or maybe even a scrap of a tree. He stuck out his hand longing for me to shake it i can’t believe the thoughts that ran through my mind. Should i shake this man’s hand? immediately my hand shot out after thinking such a disgusting thought. Happy n…new year, the man struggled to say, with his overly swollen thyroid gland preventing some movement for his impending smile. Happ.y n…n.n…ew year, he walked off letting go of my weak hand, though his was rough and strong from years of labour and toil his eyes were beautiful and his hands were strong. His eyes, his eyes, are the eyes that don’t let me sleep at night much anymore. I will tell you one thing before i go, no matter how dark the eyes or how bright…they all tell a story, a horrifically beautiful story. To make the word picture as vivid and real as possible, you must write specific details that appeal to your readers' senses sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. More than any other paragraph, a descriptive paper needs sharp, colorful details. here is a paragraph written by a student describing her mother. the young woman in the picture has a face that resembles my own in many ways. Her face is a bit more oval than mine, but the softly waving brown hair around it is identical. My mother's mouth is closed, yet there is just the slightest hint of a smile on her full lips. I know that if she had smiled, she would have shown the same wide grin and down curving smile lines that appear in my own snapshots. Her brows are plucked into thin lines, which are like two pencil strokes added to highlight those fine, luminous eyes. When you are describing the way something looks, physical appearance and space not time is what you should focus on. Therefore, you should arrange your sentences and details according to where the objects being described are located. Essay on Living In Harmony With NatureIn a descriptive paragraph or essay, you must make very clear the location of the objects you are describing. Also note that the arrangement of the details in a descriptive paper depends on the subject and the purpose. Because description is a mode of expository writing which is relied upon in other expository modes, we sometimes find difficulty in imagining a purely descriptive essay. In a narrative, for example, description can make the setting of characters more vivid in a process paper it can insure that the audience understands the finished product. Regardless of how we use description, it is easy to see that it strengthens an essay considerably. Students often ask, but how do i write a purely descriptive essay? what's the point of description? what's so different about it? there are three characteristics of a purely descriptive essay which are worthy of remembering. If, for example you are describing a snowfall, it is important for you to decide and to let your reader know if it is threatening or lovely in order to have one dominant impression it cannot be both. The dominant impression guides the author's selection of detail and is thereby made clear to the reader in the thesis sentence. A descriptive essay can be objective or subjective, giving the author a wide choice of tone, diction and attitude. For instance, an objective description of one's dog would mention such facts as height, weight, coloring and so forth. A subjective description would include the above details, but would also stress the author's feeling toward the dog, as well as its personality and habits. The purpose of a purely descriptive essay is to involve the reader enough to help him to actually visualize the things being described. The descriptive essay relies on concrete, sensory detail to communicate its point. The author of a descriptive essay must carefully select his details to support the dominant impression. Because of this, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives convey more to the reader than do nouns. Unless the description is objective, you must be sure that the dominant impression conveys an attitude. Try giving all the details first the dominant impression then is built from these details. Check your details to be sure that they are consistent with the dominant impression. You might even want to write down the five senses on a scratch piece of paper and check to see that you have covered them all. Dissertation Help Service Gumtree
