College Essays on Community Service TextEvery year, i tell myself i want to participate in something that doesn’t just help people around me but also i want to feel good hearted while contributing good deeds. This year i took on a bigger responsibility by getting my friends and family involved. Community service shouldn’t be a job or something that you do but have no excitement in while participating. This year i joined key club in knowledge of participating in activities that would help the community around me. I even brought my team to the first meeting and told them that this could be a way of team bonding. Not only did we participate in in school activities but we also got together on the weekends and helped out the community. I volunteered for three months saturdays and sundays, helping young kids improve their basketball skills. Waking up at 8am on a saturday after a long week of practice and school didn’t seem fun but the reward at the end of the day was pleasing. Seeing the little kids in the morning with smiles bright and attitude full gave me motivation and passion to push through and give my knowledge back to them. I knew i wasn’t in it alone i had my teammates by my side making it fun and self rewarding. I feel it's every individual's responsibility to help others in their community and beyond. There are many ways that i feel i would benefit from community service at alvernia college. One, it would take the focus off of me and make me more aware of the world and people around me. Today it seems that everybody is so wrapped up in themselves and material items that they lose sight of the things in life that truly make you happy. Just the good feelings you get when you're able to help somebody out are more rewarding than a paycheck. I also feel it would help me develop better leadership skills by planning and organizing fund raising, food drives, etc. It's important to know when to step up and take charge, and when it's time to sit back and listen to others ideas. I feel that the sooner you can learn to work with others, the better off you are. Last but not least, i believe that community service prior to graduation will give me a better idea of what to expect once i'm graduated. By having that knowledge and experience i feel that i would have an edge over other graduates from different schools. All in all i know that i can and will make a difference in people's lives everyday. I feel that not only would i be an asset to your college, but also to the community as well. One of my favorite things about community service is that there are opportunities and choices right in your very neighborhood. You can volunteer for something you really believe and have an interest in, and can volunteer as much or as little as you 039 d like or have time for. Later, as i got to know the animals and staff members i learned to enjoy and relish my time there. It was a very rewarding experience and i got to do many things i wouldn 039 t of had an opportunity to do otherwise.
