We also encourage students to understand aspects of personal development and the health, social care and early years sectors through investigation and evaluation of a range of services and organisations. We also focus on life changes and the different types of support within health, social and early years' sectors. Within the four units of portfolio study, learners are expected to engage in lesson and work independently to deliver a detailed and creative piece of coursework. All coursework units focus on an area of health and social care, for example how we promote health, how a child develops and how services work in partnership to benefit the clients. Exam revision is taught by understanding key terminology and the command verbs, allowing students to learn the best ways to answer the questions. The exams focus on care within health and social care and how demographics can help plan and deliver services. Guest speakers are used to help the students understand the field of health and social care and visits to care services are linked with the units of study. We offer many opportunities to seek support for their coursework units and have after school and lunch provision set up. We offer consistent and regular feedback to our students to help them progress throughout the years. In health and social care we study all aspects of development throughout life – from cradle to grave. The old style gcse in health amp social care is being phased out and the current year 10 students are following a vocationally related qualification known as the cambridge national certificate in health amp social care this is at a level equivalent to gcse. This qualification takes an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. The course is industry relevant and geared to key sector requirements and suits a broad range of learning styles and abilities. The students are challenged by introducing them to demanding materials, encouraging independence and creativity, and providing tasks that engage with the most taxing aspects of the national curriculum. This includes the essential values of care and the current legislation requirements and the importance of softer skills such as communication. In year 10 the units studied are: this is assessed by external examination 1 hour exam at the end of year 10 with options to retake in y11 – best result counts and accounts for 25% of the final grade. This is a coursework unit which is completed in year 10 it is internally assessed and externally moderated. It takes the form of a training pack for care workers and some practical activities which are assessed by witness statements. In year 11 two further coursework units will be studied which each account for a further 25% of the final grade. They are: unit 1: f910: promoting quality care tested unit 2: f911: communication coursework unit 3: f912: promoting good health coursework each module is given equal weighting 33% each.
