Comedk is the consortium of medical, engineering and dental colleges of karnataka to determine the merit of students seeking admissions to the undergraduate courses in the member institutions of the karnataka professional colleges foundation trust kpcf in its endeavor to offer an effective, fair, transparent and non exploitative testing procedure. There are 12 medical, 25 dental and more than 150 engineering colleges who make available almost 20,0 seats for admission. Comedk has been assigned the duty of conducting a common entrance test for admission in undergraduate and postgraduate engineering and medical/dental courses each year across the state of karnataka.

The common entrance exam conducted by comedk for the undergraduate engineering and medical/dental courses across the state of karnataka is termed as the all india undergraduate entrance test or comedk uget and the same for the postgraduate engineering and medical/dental courses is termed as comedk pget. The comedk uget exam pattern covers a gamut of the subjects physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and english. Only in the comedk uget exam will have to answer a three hours duration question paper consisting of the subjects physics, chemistry and mathematics. There would be 60 multiple objective type questions from each of the subjects physics, chemistry and mathematics respectively, making it a total of 180 questions. There is no negative marking for a wrong answer, but in case of a tie the candidate with the least wrong answers will get selected.

Candidates are required to mark their answers on an omr answer sheet optical mark reader , which is machine read and evaluated. Candidates applying for medical/dental courses mbbs/bds only will have to answer two question papers. Paper i will be of two hours duration, consisting of 60 multiple objective type questions from each of the subjects physics and chemistry respectively, making it a total of 120 questions. Paper ii will be of one and a half hour duration, consisting of 60 multiple objective type questions from biology and 30 multiple objective type questions from english, making it a total of 90 questions.
